  1. Valid Teaching Certificate with a valid Special Education Endorsement
  2. Master’s Degree in appropriate discipline
  3. Meets State of Michigan qualifications for Supervisor of Special Education (R340.1772)
  4. Three years of successful teaching experience in Special Education
  5. Three years of successful administrative experience, preferred

DESCRIPTION:

The Special Education Coordinator is responsible for providing programming, supervision, monitoring compliance, making recommendations for staffing, assisting with staff evaluation and providing consultation to building administrators.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Serves as the Coordinator of Special Education
    1. Ensure policies and programs are in place to properly implement special education services in accordance with law.
    2. Maintain regular contact with and provide consultation to building principals and staff concerning the on-site management of special education programs and services.
    3. Work in consultation with building principals to conduct special education teacher evaluations.
  2. Leadership, Collaboration, and Capacity Building
    1. Exemplifies the highest levels of professional ethics, integrity, and trust.
    2. Provide expertise on staffing, curriculum, facilities, finance, and legal issues for student support services.
    3. Maintains an active role in professional organizations and activities to keep abreast of educational trends, developments, and research.  
    4. Coordinate with the Director of Teaching and Learning and building principals to plan and implement professional development. 
    5. Attend and facilitate select IEP meetings as necessary.
    6. Foster an environment to successfully build teams, solve problems, and mediate disputes among stakeholders.
    7. Collaborate with the District Administrators to maintain an accurate and appropriate budget for special education services.
    8. Provide reports to the School Board and Superintendent as requested.
    9. Serve as liaison between district and outside support agencies, including Char-Em ISD, Community Mental Health.
    10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

209 working days with vacation days, holidays, personal business days and personal illness days as indicated in the employment contract.

 

EVALUATION:

Performance will be evaluated during the probationary period and annually in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education regarding professional personnel.
